In additon to standard rectangular wine racks we make shaped wine racks to fit under stairs arches etc.

A typical shaped wine rack fitted into an alcove in a Bath resturant.

To enable use to make a rack to fit such a space the first requirement is a reasonably accurate diagram of the space.

We will then work out the shape of the rack which can fit into such a space and confirm your requirement. A typical diagram of what we require is as below.

Shaped Rack Measuring Diagram

You will note that we indicate that you should also take some intermediate measurements "H2" and "H3" approxmately 1/3 and 2/3 rds of the way along the sloping part. Although you might wish to sketch the steps themselves there is no need to accurately measure the individual steps, (unless they are irregular in height) as we tend to make the racking so that there would be a gap between the rack and the underside of any step. This does not lose you any bottle storage as you can usually get a bottle on top of the rack.

It may also be necessary for you to send us a plan diagram of the space, particularly if there is a door and side wall enclosing the area. In these circumstances we will probably have to build the wine rack in sections so that it can be manouvered into the space.

Note if this is an understair cupboard and the hallway giving access is narrow you may need to consider how the move into the space from the hallway will be achieved.

Don't forget to give us the dimensions for the door, including height!

Note if this is an understair cupboard and the hallway giving access is narrow you may need to consider how the move into the space from the hallway will be achieved.

We have made racking which fits in shaped spaces in all our bottle sizes:

  • Standard Bottle (75cl)
  • Half-Bottle (35cl)
  • Magnum (1.5l)
  • Double depth

We have also supplied a mixture of units to fit out such a space.

Arches

For an arch we would need to have a number of intermediate points so that we can ensure that the curve is correct. In older buildings these are never quite symmetrical!

Also please note that unless the arch is greater than 1m wide and has a high point at least 500 mm above the lower side/s it may not be possible to make an arched shape which sensibly fits. In these circumstances a normal flat top will be recommended.

MOST IMPORTANT

If there is an electric meter or similar immovable object in the space mark it's position and size clearly.

Photo

If you can take a photo of the space and send that to us as well it will help us understand your requirement.

Staining

Like all our Traditonal racking, special shaped racks can also be stained.
